I am a trauma, general, and critical care surgeon licensed in Florida and California.
My practice includes elective general surgery, including robotic surgery, trauma surgery, and critical care. My board certifications are in surgery, surgical critical care, and neurocritical care.
Prior work includes serving as an attending surgeon at the UC San Diego Trauma Division from 2007 to 2025 and was Chief and Professor of Surgery there. Previously I was a faculty trauma surgeon at the Vancouver General Hospital/University of British Columbia and at LA County+University of Southern California Medical Center.
My postgraduate training was as a general surgeon in 1997 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I completed a trauma fellowship at UC San Diego 2001 to 2003.
I served 22 years of military medical service in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a flight surgeon and general surgeon with six deployments, including three tours in Afghanistan as a combat surgeon with Canadian, NATO & US forces. I also served as an exchange officer for 6 years with the US Navy Medical Corps.
In collaboration with excellent colleagues, we have published over 130 peer reviewed articles in health services research, clinical ultrasound, critical care, and trauma.
I am also a commercial rated airplane pilot and certified instrument flight instructor.
